Honolulu, North Shore, and Diamond Head
Oahu is the first island that my husband and I spent time in, and it’s home to Honolulu and the North Shore surf capital of the world. My grandma grew up in Hawaii and it was exciting to explore the islands she called home! One of the best things about being a photographer in Oahu, Hawaii, was getting to do a few sessions while I was there – check out Diana + Russ! I’d always be up for coming back here to shoot again.
We spent our first day in the Ala Moana/Waikiki Beach area of Honolulu. The next day we visited Pearl Harbor and then hung out at the Electric Beach, named because it’s close to a power station that makes the water warm and is a popular spot for sea life. Another day we drove up to the North Shore and hung out at the beaches around Haleiwa, which quickly became one of my favorite places in the world. The North Shore is where most of the surf competitions happen during the winter months because it’s famous for its big waves, but it’s comparatively calm in August, so calm we even got to swim at the Banzai Pipeline. We spent our next day back in Honolulu hiking up Diamond Head before flying over to Kauai!
Oahu is a beautiful place with so many different personalities, and we look forward to going back – especially if we can get such a cute convertible rental car again. 🙂
- Night one: a beautiful sunset at Ala Moana Beach
- Pearl Harbor
- Electric Beach
- There are SO many chickens roaming around in Hawaii.
- I told you our rental car was THE CUTEST EVER.
- We got to see a firework show from our Airbnb in Honolulu. We stayed on floor 40, and it was such a cool experience.
- Pua’ena Point Beach Park
- Haleiwa Ali’i Beach Park
- I don’t know what I love more: this quirky vintage shop in an old sugar mill or that incredibly cool banana (?) plant.
- Banzai Pipeline and Sunset Beach
- We saw our first sea turtle here at Kaiaka Bay Beach Park
- This is Kailua Beach Park and I got stung by a jellyfish here 🤘🏼
- From the top of Diamond Head
- Looking down at Honolulu
- And finally, a favorite film shot on Psychedelic Blues #2
